Mining and the Environment
Calais Resources is dedicated to the community and environment in which it operates. The Calais management team lives in Colorado and is keenly aware of the environmental obligations that come with being a 21st century mining company in America and abroad. The Company has pro-actively engaged in environmentally sound business practices in Colorado for the last 20+ years of mining activity. Calais Resources will not use cyanide in it's gold and silver milling and recovery process in Colorado.
In recent years, the Caribou mining project has won a number of public awards and Calais has participated in numerous projects with Boulder County and local and State governments. Thomas Hendricks, founder of Hendricks Mining Inc., which merged with Calais Resources Inc. in 1998, headed these important projects and has provided lectures to over 40,000 students and guests from around the world. These lectures focused on the importance and relevance of the mining industry to everyone's daily life and emphasized the importance of good environmental stewardship. Thomas has also been a professional hard rock miner and flotation mill operator at Caribou for the past 35 years.
